Tell me about your swimming background. For over 15 years I have taught infants, children and adults to swim. I work with water fears to competitive swimmers to first-time lap swimmers. I have an extremely high success rate and am typically booked 2-3 months in advance for lessons. I am also the creator behind Mommies-in-Motion™, a fun water aerobic workout for mommy with baby learning water exploration skills. I am passionate about water aerobics or water workouts for every body at every age.
What are your teaching techniques? Teaching works best when the instructor is firm, fair and fun. The Squidkid Swim Method does this by using what I call valued-based teaching. My success is built on providing the following to each and all my students:
- Nurturing in a sensitive environment (value = patience)
- Tasking to follow directions and be present (value = persistence)
- Capitalizing strengths to maximize performance (value = practice)
- Covering pool habits not typically discussed (value = safety)
Tell me about your writing background. I’ve been a professional journalist for 15 years and write about autos, outdoors, personal finance, parenting and health/fitness. I have also sold an essay or two. I’ve been published and syndicated in over 50 different print and web-based magazines, sites and newspapers. Here are some clips:
